Post Family Farm

Saturday we had a church outing to Post Family Farm. The kids got to have a tractor barrel ride. Then we all went on a hay ride after which we had a campfire together. It was a lot of fun and Matthew can't wait to go back next week for his class trip.

Christmas Alert ~ Cool New Shop

I came across this shop in the forums a week or so ago when looking for new shops. Here is a one of a kind gift if I ever saw one from ToBoldlyFold. Here is some explaination:
After years of using mass produced sketchbooks, I found that I was never satisfied with the paper quality, no matter how beautiful or well constructed the book may have been. I finally found a paper that could withstand everything from ink and heavy erasure to the finest details of a perfectionist's pen.

Every book in the Cypress Collection is made with this very same high-quality, acid-free, 170g paper. I tear the sections down by hand from 26" x 40" sheets, producing 64 pages (128 sides). The books are bound to genuine leather covers using only Irish linen thread. Due to the type of binding, these books lie flat when open. I cut the leather down myself from full hides to insure the best fit and feel for each book. For closures, I use vintage buttons that I have collected during my travels and have purchased from other Etsy sellers.

Do you Can?

Coutesy of CraftMag I found this Etsy shop this morning. Lelo in Nopo Homemade has this really great labels for your canning jars. They come in four different colors and you can customize them with a name, ingredients and date. What a great idea if you are giving these as gifts. It labels and decorates at the same time!!

Custom Made Necklace FOR MEEEE!!

I custom ordered this necklace from Cymbaline's Designs. I did not have anything navy blue and really wanted silver so she made this one for me. To be totally honest, sometimes I am afraid of purchasing from a shop that has 1000's of sales becuase maybe they are busy etc. but..... this shop was AWESOME!! She answered all convos and custom made this to exact specifications!! oh, and did I mention how incredible it looked when it arrived in the mail. Perfectly wrapped with this cute little sticker and bow. It was a preasure to open and it felt like Christmas!! I love it so much! Thanks!

Friday Forum Find ~ White Earth Studio

Toda'y’s Forum Find is WhiteEarthStudio. I was amazed at the beautiful shop and all of the hand-built porcelain pottery. Here is a little about the artist:wesbanner

White Earth, a series of porcelain vessels, is a homage to my childhood in the Dakotas, its visual images and memories. It is a deep respect, a bowing down to the earth where I have experienced it.wes
Walking the freshly plowed fields as a child, I would find fossils, shells and arrowheads heads. I have renewed and extended my fascination with these shapes. I have discovered new connections between the prairie (once an inland sea) and the ocean. Like the prairie and the sea, my pieces display hues against large neutral backgrounds - a touch of pink or a glint of pearl - finding a prairie rose in a otherwise green meadow, or a single shell on a stretch of sand. wes2
White Earth comes from some part of me that works unconsciously, a part that reaches down into my memories. White Earth comes from that private part of me, and I hope it will touch that part in others.wes3

I have worked with porcelain ceramics for thirty years and have not come close to exploring all of the organic themes and inspiration I find in the beauty, mystery and wonder of the natural world.

wes4 Go check out the shop, there is so many more beautiful pieces that it is hard to capture it here!

Craft Hope comes to GR!!!!

Craft Hope Spreading seeds of hope one stitch at a time

For some time I have had the "Craft Hope" button on the left hand side of my blog. I found this blog soon after the last project was complete: SOCK MONKEYS!. It is probably best that I didn't see it in time because my last attempt at a sock monkey drew quite a few laughs. Well, GUESS WHAT!!! Craft Hope is partnering with Margaret's Hope Chest to provide a quilt to each child in the Grand Rapids (Michigan) Public School system who is homeless during the Christmas season. I currently live in Jenison and it is about 10 minutes away from GR so this is especially neat!! Soo, spread it around and blog and tweet or talk on the phone.. whatever you do so we can help Craft Hope and Margaret's Hope Chest meet their goal. Deadline is November 15!

First Attempt :: Diaper Bag

I was in charge of making a diaper bag for one of the shower games that my mom is planning for my sister-in-law. She wanted one that was a little larger than the ones I usually do. I found this pattern in the Amy Butler Little Stitches pattern book that I have. I left out the side pockets and inside elastic pockets for the sake of sanity and time. I did put in the divider and like the contrasting polkadots. I also cheated on the straps and just used cotton webbing. All in all, it is a bag that she can use when she has the baby and it is quite sturdy, I don't know how many layers some parts ended up having as I tried to fudge the pattern and use the stabilzer that I had on hand.
